Mindfulness: benefit to body and mind healthy

For most people, when they hear the word Mindfulness, what comes to mind is the image of Buddhist worship or some religion. Full deception. Mindfulness, despite Buddhist origin, has nothing to do with religion, but rather with a well-founded therapy on a scientific basis. Jon Kabat Zinn is considered the father of Mindfulness, he developed a program aimed at reducing depressive symptoms and illnesses, based on scientific evidence.

what is mindfluness?

Mindfulness, in free translation means “Full Attention”. It is a state of mind that denotes being present at the present moment in a curious, observant, and nonjudgmental way. In traditional meditation we often lead to a state of drowsiness. In Mindfulness, what is sought is to bring the body into the present moment, paying attention to what is currently being done.

We can define as a set of meditative techniques focused on the present moment, being a method of mental training with the objective of reducing internal conflicts, finding internal tranquility and making the individual leave the automatic of the day to day.

When we talk about benefits, we can mention improvement in the decrease of the depressive symptoms, anxiety, stress, immune system, chronic pains and also improvement of the feeding.

From the practice of Mindfulness, the individual can improve symptoms of anxiety and stress, as it will be easier to deal with the situations that trigger such sensations.

When we eat with mindfulness, we can learn to better select “what,” “how much” and “how” do we eat, and from that improved food awareness, we can achieve weight loss as a consequence. However, weight loss is not the goal of Mindfulness or Mindful Eating (Mindfulness techniques directed towards food attention).

Mindfulness Practice

We must remember that in the practice of Mindfulness we can not create concrete expectations about the future. The idea is to expect nothing but attention to the present moment and connection with our inner perceptions. So if we are thinking about what we want, we are already distorting the idea of being in the present moment.
